It’s hard to tell but there are five caribou in this picture. They’re here a few months early. The caribou usually stay with the heard but apparently these five got lost because the rest of them won’t be here until there’s grass to eat. These ones are digging though the snow to get to the old frozen grass from last year.

Poor things, what a miserable time they must be having.
Probably too tough to eat, also.
